"Nurikabe" collaboration with Reverse Image
Now Featured on "Duck In A Tree" podcast
The year 2023 has been a nasty one on both a micro and macro scale, not doing much to alter my opinion that the ‘20s are, hands-down, the ugliest and least inspiring decade within my lifetime. Yet even this time has not been without some (for me, anyway) positive developments - among these has been the rejuvenation of my desire to compose unusual non-conceptual music, “solo” and in collaboration with others.
Better still, some of the new material is getting recognition in corners manned by people with (justifiably) far more name recognition or than myself. Case in point: my collaborator Yin (Reverse Image) and I are honored to have our new piece "Nurikabe" featured on Ben Ponton's great "Duck in a Tree" podcast. Listen to the full episode here.
Ben's work with Zoviet France, it might go without saying, is no small part of my patchwork of sonic influences - I'm partially indebted to ZF's means of re-envisioning "ambient" music as something other than just a "passive" listening experience, and was also inspired by their skill in making quotidian tools sound unearthly or divorced from their particular time and place. So, it is always nice to "give back" when and where I can.
There's plenty of other engaging, eye-opening material featured in the podcast archives so immerse yourselves accordingly.
